Spirituality, Signs & Interpretation: Stop Giving Away Your Power
Your Spiritual Journey Is Yours
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make on their spiritual journey is giving someone else the authority to interpret their relationship with Spirit. I understand why people do it. We all want reassurance. We want someone to tell us exactly what a dream means, why we keep seeing a certain animal, or what an angel number is trying to tell us. The problem is, spirituality doesn't work that way. Your journey is unique to you, and no one else can fully experience what you're experiencing. This is one of the reasons I've never believed spirituality should be treated like a cookie cutter process. What awakens one person may mean something completely different for another. Even people who practice the same tradition can have vastly different experiences because every relationship with the Divine is personal. Teachers, mentors, and elders can guide us, but no one can walk our spiritual path for us.
Why Asking Everyone Else Creates Confusion
Let's use a simple example. Imagine you keep seeing a cow and decide to ask a spiritual group what it means. One person tells you it's Hathor reaching out to you. Someone else insists it's Kamadhenu. Another person says cows represent fertility and someone around you is pregnant. Another says it means abundance is coming. Someone tells you to start doing protection work. Before long someone hijacks the conversation to talk about the animals they're seeing, another person wants to know what color the cow was because apparently that changes everything, and eventually someone offers to interpret it for you if you send them money. Then you Google it and find hundreds of different explanations. Now you're even more confused than when you started because every person is filtering your experience through their own beliefs, traditions, and relationship with Spirit instead of yours.
Context Is Everything
When someone asks me about a sign, I'm usually much more interested in everything surrounding the experience than the symbol itself. What were you thinking about? How were you feeling? Had you just asked Spirit a question? Were you praying for confirmation? Were you in the middle of making a difficult decision? Had something significant just happened in your life? Those details matter because they provide the context for the message. A feather, a butterfly, a crow, or an angel number has very little meaning by itself. The meaning comes from how it connects to your life in that exact moment.
Not Everything Is a Sign
This may surprise some people, but not everything is a spiritual message. Sometimes a bird is simply a bird. Sometimes you happen to notice a repeating number because your brain naturally recognizes patterns. We live in both a physical world and a spiritual world, and developing discernment means learning the difference between the two. If we convince ourselves that every single thing is a sign, we eventually stop trusting our intuition and begin chasing symbolism everywhere we look. Discernment is one of the greatest spiritual skills you can develop.
Build the Relationship
If Spirit, your ancestors, your guides, a deity, or the Divine is genuinely trying to communicate with you, then build a relationship with them. Relationships aren't built overnight. They require patience, observation, consistency, and trust. The more time you spend praying, meditating, journaling, studying, and simply paying attention, the more you'll begin to recognize how Spirit speaks specifically to you. Every relationship develops its own language, and your spiritual relationship is no different.
A Good Teacher Empowers You
One thing I've always believed is that a good spiritual teacher doesn't create dependency. They create confidence. My goal has never been to become someone's permanent interpreter. My goal is to teach people how to recognize their own intuition, trust themselves, and build their own relationship with Spirit. That is where real spiritual growth happens. I would much rather show you how to find your own answers than convince you that you always need mine.
Learning Your Own Spiritual Language
The next time something catches your attention, pause before asking the internet. Ask yourself what was happening around you. What were you thinking? What emotions came up? Had you recently asked for guidance? What does your intuition honestly tell you before you hear anyone else's opinion? Write it down. Over time you'll begin to notice patterns, and those patterns become your own spiritual language. That language belongs to you, and no one will ever know it as intimately as you do.
Final Thoughts
Can you ask other people for their opinions? Absolutely. There is nothing wrong with learning from different perspectives or having healthy discussions. Just don't hand your power away in the process. Other people can offer possibilities, but they cannot tell you with certainty what Spirit is saying to you. Your signs are your signs. Your journey is your journey. Your relationship with the Divine is your relationship. The more you trust your own intuition, the less you'll need someone else to tell you what Spirit is already tryuing to show you.
